Bourdon Tube
The Bourdon (Bore-dn) tube measures the pressure of liquids and gases. The Bourdon tube is able to measure high amounts of pressure (up to 100,000 pounds per square inch).
The Bourdon tube pressure gauge works by the gas or liquid entering the inlet at the bottom of the device. The gas or liquid travels up the internal, flattened pipe (called the Bourdon tube). The bend in the flattened pipe will begin to straighten due to the pressure of the gas or liquid. Once the pipe straightens, the needle on the gauge will move, determining the pressure of the gas of liquid.
